Jews like Dylan, U have no clue ? best Americans .
I can't read "She's Gone" and not thing of "My Girl" by Chilliwack.
The Band
'69 Woodstock ?
This is one where you really need to do the studio version. The production is pretty ridiculous. It's hard to get a good look at it, but the keyboard is probably a Mini-Moog. It would have been a new-fangled toy at the time, only a few years out. Before that it was generally big modular systems. Both Moog, Arp, and others finally condensed the core aspects of their modular systems into touring friendly packages like the MiniMoog and Arp 2600. And awful lot of the stage synth work you'd have heard back then would have been one of those. And still today of course. The MiniMoog is still going strong, and the 2600 has been cloned by a few different folks and reissued by Korg who bought the name back when.
Sound of my teens! I grew up in Philly in the 70s. Pure blue-eyed soul, influenced by the Philadelphia soul groups of the 60s and 70s. From my hometown! Please look at some of their other songs from this era, like Sara Smile. Also, the studio version of She's Gone has a very different, but wonderful vibe. Also, check out "Live From Daryl's House", which is on youtube. Many, many famous folk do a jam session with Daryl Hall, and there are some spine tingling moments in there! Like Todd Rundgren, among others.
Craig Chaquiço is the real talent here in my opinion. He began playing with Starship at only 16. His solo work is simply sparkly. Very different from this. Treat yourself and check "Acoustic Highway" album. I think you'll see the gift like I do. He's also a fine person. He plays in hospitals a couple of times a week just to lift the spirits of the patients.
His singing style is absoltuely unique tho, I couldnt name anybody else perofmirng like that. Sb has suggestion?
Robby was not putting his violin through any effects - they had a full orchestra behind them. Also, Kerry was not on stage here. That is Billy Greer playing acoustic guitar, NOT Kerry.
"Early" Steve Walsh? Nope, not even close. His voice is so thin and weak here compared to his early period in the 70s.
Depending on the day either "She's Gone" or "Sara Smile" is my favorite song by these guys. Today it's "She's Gone". Listen to the beautiful studio version of "Sara Smile".
Another reactor I watch, Helene; calls it "flutter Tongue", but it's basically a trill. She is a classically trained flutist.
nice
Beth, I've said it before...I love that you do research. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. U.S.A., and I'm a Steelers fan. I was pleasantly surprised by your correct reference.....wow!
Hello again Beth. I've just rewatched this video and analysed your comments about lifting your chin. This is something I never did during my singing career and I'm sad to say that I think it has left me with a condition called 'Dystonia'. You'll need to look it up. I can no longer pitch notes properly and have given up singing. I had a tendency to twist my neck when reaching those loud non-vibrato notes and I think it is the cause of my condition. 20 years of forcing those notes has done me no favours. Wish I had seen your video long ago.
Any band worth their salt uses a Hammond Organ.
Being born 1971 in Germany, this was one of the songs of my youth. Therefore I will always feel connected with it.
Great reaction
As a kid my dad played his stuff. I loved his music, by contrast todays music is bland in sense of message and composition
I've watch you for years. Alot of reaction videos of people not particularly talented. I like okeefe foundation. Amazing young people incredibly talented. Also Brass Against the Machine. Afrobeats. So many that are not commercial. Puddles Pity Party and everyone associated. Instead of a male acappella group that butchers "Man Of Constant Sorrow"
You can’t beat Hall & Oates in thier prime🤘🤘
What, a Scotish girl that can't RRRRRRRRRoll her R's, Beth you are full of surprises!
Uhh… why aren’t you reviewing the original recording? Big thumbs done.
I met Daryl around 1977, a few years after "Abandoned Luncheonette"was released...(the luncheonette was in my area too). ...My friend knew him very well so he came over to his home one day....There were 3 of us sitting around on the floor with Daryl just talking and having an everday conversation. He stayed and visited for a couple hours......He was so nice and I also remember how thin he was at that time too. Very nice time....He truly had a phenomenal voice!
Excellent, educational and entertaining reaction to a stone-cold classic. Looking forward to future reactions to H&O.
Blue eyed soul
Many people knew them as successful songwriters and performers. Which they were. But they were also talented singers, multi instrumentalists and producers. ✅
This guy is pretty close to the best guitarist alive on the planet right now. . . Should really check out Cupids Dead or Get the Funk Out or Play with Me for an incredible solo
Young people, listen. My Father passed away in March, and he and I had a conversation about him getting old and dying a few months prior in December. We loved each other and always said so. I will tell you, the best thing that ever happened to me was being able to have that conversation with my Father. Please do this before your parents pass away. I feel so lucky to have been able to have that conversation.
Studio is a little better,,,,👍👍👍🤪
Philadelphia Sound
sounds exactly like the album version though
That piano break is actually a sax break on the record, I believe. Also the acutal record sounds muuuch better. Less Daryl, more John, and just a tighter sound. Many of their early fans, including me, really loved their sound in the 70s but did not love all the nursery rhymy songs of the 80s, despite the fact that they were big hits.
First time I've listened to this after losing both parents last year ooft 😭
He's kinda like a black metal vocalist in a nu metal band. The wailing yet guttural sound he makes. It's powerful. I wish you react to Thy Antichrist - Where Is Your God? (Live) That guy sounds like a tortured soul in hell. Completely insane vocals and it kinda has Chester's style. I'm no vocalist but that's just how I feel.
Can you possibly get the story more wrong? Song was NOT about Dennis, it was either autobiographical...or about Chuck.
Their cover of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is great but they have a lot of great songs. It's both a shame & a huge accomplishment that they recently split after 50 years together.

Interesting, I grew up about 35-40 miles from Daryl Hall and more interesting is that we share the same birthdate and same year. I have loved them both from the beginning. Nice review, Beth.
Thank you so much for all your insights and explanations.
For a personal treat, check out some of the guest artists on "Live at Daryl's Place". The guests are awesome and the atmosphere (they're playing in a small wooden house) is wonderful. I have way too many favorites to list, but a big fav is Grace Potter - "Things I never needed" PS I have a huge crush on her!
“My face ain’t looking any younger”.
Beth, i'd recommend you to listen to female throat singing, please make vocal analysis & reaction: ua-cam.com/video/aW1Brk65lj4/v-deo.html
I Can't Go for That and Private Eyes are absolutely bangers, listen to those Hall & Oates songs
Silk Sonic reminds me a bit of them
Loved Beth's face when she discovered they're Blue-Eyed Soul. 🤩 "Sara Smile" really put them in the spotlight. You wife or girlfriend's on her way home. Turn the lights low, table is set, a lit candle, Hall & Oats on the stereo. May not get to diner but dessert's a sure thing... Is the kind of song likely made babies.
Cest tellement beau, tellement rare, heureux que cet enregistrement soit lapour se rendre compte du talent de ces deux merveilleuses autistes ❤❤❤
seriously waiting for you to say something about the time signature. still... waiting...
Yeah, I'm sorry, but I'm just gonna stop watching these reactions. I know, to you, the live versions are more interesting because you can see them, but musically, for a LOT of groups, the studio versions are so much better, and I ALWAYS suggest reactors do the studio first, and then, do the live if they want to do more, like doing Theatrical versions of movies before doing the Extended Editions, which often get weird or add in stuff that refocuses your attention on the wrong things..
